Our Committees
Church Council
The Church Council has general oversight of the life and activities of the congregation, and in particular its worship life, to the end that everything be done in accordance with the Word of God and the faith and practice of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The council is also responsible for the financial and property matters of the congregation.
Christian Education
The Christian Education committee has oversight of the Christian Education program and offers opportunities for, and encourages, people to serve as teachers and support assistants working with different age groups.
Hospitality Committee
Zion's Hospitality Committee is responsible for making sure hospitality is provided at all events for which it is appropriate, such as receptions following baptisms, First Communion, and other special worship services or social events.
Property Committee
Zion's Property Committee handles all things having to do with the physical building, ranging from windows that need to be fixed, gas lines that need updating, lighting for the outside premises, roof repairs, and renovations to restrooms.
Stewardship
Zion's Stewardship program provides "temple talks" that cover a wide range of topics. Some of these include overviews of how people's contributions are distributed with respect to the national ELCA, the Upstate NY Synod and Zion. They may also touch on the many ministries Zion is involved in and the lives of Utica/Rome residents Zion touches.
Worship and Music Committee
This committee has oversight of the different worship services at Zion. It includes, but is not limited to: organizing the ushers, greeters, worship leaders, communion assistants, choir, special music, and special worship services.
Youth Group
The Zion Youth Group provides our 6th through 12th graders an opportunity to make friendships, participate in service activities, and have fun in a caring Christian atmosphere. All are welcomed and encouraged to attend our meetings and any or all of our activities.
