Angel & Mitten Tree Donations
The Angel & Mitten Trees will be up November 17 through December 8!!
ANGEL TREE: The Angel Tree will benefit the children at Thea Bowman Center. The greater need this year to help the children and their families will again be through gift cards. The gift card contributions Zion has provided continue to be a lifeline for the families. If you would like to participate in this year’s Angel Tree tradition, please send your monetary contributions directly to Zion Lutheran Church with the notation of “Angel Tree” so it is clear where the monies are to be directed. This year, members will also be able to take an angel off the tree which will have an envelope attached to it to make it easier to contribute directly to Zion and identify your donations for Thea Bowman. All the monies received will be converted into Walmart gift cards that will then be handed to Thea Bowman for distribution to the families. The Angel Tree will be up for the November 17th church service, and contributions will be collected through Sunday, December 8, 2024. Thea Bowman is deeply appreciative of all the assistance Zion has provided to their organization throughout the years.
MITTEN TREE: The Mitten Tree will benefit The Center (formerly Resource Center for Refugees). The greatest need at The Center is for men’s and women’s gloves sizes medium and large, and men’s hats. Handmade or store-bought hats/mittens, gloves, scarves are also welcomed and will be collected through December 8, 2024. Any children’s sizes will go to Thea Bowman, and the women’s and men’s glove sizes and men’s hats will go to The Center. The Mitten Tree will be up for the November 17th church service. Items can be dropped off Monday – Thursday during church office hours beginning November 18th, and also during Sunday in person services. The Social Ministry Committee members gratefully appreciate all of your contributions this year for the Angel Tree and the Mitten Tree.
These two programs are led by the Social Ministry Committee. Local agencies and organizations are chosen to be recipients of the Angel Tree and Mitten Tree gift donations. The trees are put up in the Narthex.
The angel gift tag is labeled with a wish from a child or adult involved in one of the local agencies that will be receiving the personal gift items that have been listed on that tag. Unwrapped gifts are returned to place under the Angel tree, and in December the gifts are delivered to the selected organizations to then distribute the gifts.
The Mitten Tree accepts handmade or purchased mittens/gloves/hats/scarves to place on the tree. Again, in December, the items are then delivered to the selected organizations to distribute to those in need.
